Behind the Wings

--
Behind the Wings is a contemporary portrait exploring identity, mystery and transformation through the striking image of a woman concealed behind oversized butterfly-shaped glasses.

The deep black wings become more than an accessory. They obscure the eyes and create a sense of distance, while delicate golden lines trace across the butterfly and spill into the surrounding composition. Her vivid red lips provide a dramatic focal point against the warm neutral tones of the face and clothing.

Loose expressive linework gives the portrait an unfinished, spontaneous quality, allowing fragments of the figure to dissolve into the surrounding space. The contrast between the refined gold detailing, powerful black butterfly and soft painterly skin tones creates a tension between elegance and vulnerability.

The butterfly becomes a symbol of transformation, while the concealed eyes invite the viewer to question what lies behind the surface. Is she hiding, protecting herself, reinventing herself, or simply choosing what the world is allowed to see?

Behind the Wings celebrates the mystery of identity and the freedom to reveal only the parts of ourselves we choose.
She doesn't hide because she is afraid of being seen.

She hides because she has learned that not everything needs to be revealed.

Behind the dark wings, her eyes disappear from view, leaving only the curve of her face, the intensity of her lips and the golden threads of transformation surrounding her.

The butterfly becomes her mask, her armour and perhaps her invitation.

Look closer.

There is always more beneath the surface.
